College Admissions Expert Elizabeth Levine: Financial Aid Myths

| 13 May 2016 | 02:32

Financial Aid Myth – The best way to get money to pay for college is to search for those not well known awards that go unclaimed each year. FACT: 95% of financial aid comes from the federal or state government as well as the institution itself. To qualify for some of these funds you will need to complete the college's required financial aid forms (e.g., FAFSA or CSS Profile). Also being in the top part of the schools applicant pool potentially sets you up for a merit aid package. In addition, understanding which colleges are more generous than others can reduce your net cost significantly.
