CENTRAL VALLEY — On Sunday, Feb. 25, Music in Central Valley will present a program of solo and duo works for piano at Central Valley United Methodist Church, 12 Smith Clove Road, beginning at 3 p.m.

The afternoon is decidedly a romantic one, offering works by composers of the nineteenth century who shared for each other much respect if not always agreement, and showing how the piano grew to flourish both as an instrument in the intimate setting of one’s home for duo playing and in public spaces for solo concert performance.

The program will include works by Schubert, Brahms, Schumann and Liszt and feature pianists Victoria von Arx and Janice Nimetz.

• Victoria von Arx is a member of the music faculty at the University at Albany, where she is a frequent piano soloist and chamber musician. She has performed and taught in New York City, New Jersey, Michigan, and Wisconsin, and has served on both the faculty and the executive committee of the Adamant Music School in Vermont.

• Janice Nimetz performs as soloist and chamber musician in the Hudson Valley.

After an extended and fulfilling tenure on the piano faculty of Emma Willard School in Troy, Nimetz is now the piano mentor at Songcatches, Inc. in New Rochelle, which offers a music and arts program to students of limited socio-economic resources and which is committed to community building.

She is Director of Music at Central Valley United Methodist Church and maintains a private piano studio in Harriman.

Essential information• There is no admission but there is a suggested donation at the door.

• The church is handicapped accessible.

• Snow date: March 11.
