MIDDLETOWN — Tuesday, December 12 at Middletown High School,
The Monroe-Woodbury Girls Varsity Basketball Team traveled to Middletown on Tuesday, Dec. 12, to take on the Middies to start league play and to hopefully get things turned around after their 0-2 start.
Head Coach Pat Harris had his team ready as the Crusaders scored 18 points (the most in one quarter this year) in the first period as the team took a 18-7 lead.
Toni Neely got the Crusaders going by hitting three of her six three-point shots in the game in the first period.
In the second quarter, the Crusader defense stopped the Middies cold and held them to four points as Melissa Alifano scored four points with some beautiful moves down low to give the Crusaders a 29-11 half time lead.
The Middies came out of the break and cut into the Crusaders lead by out scoring them 10-4 in the third quarter.
But the Crusaders were able to stabilize things in finale period as Jamie Waldron scored five of her 11 points in the game as the Crusaders took a 11-point victory.
The 44-33 victory brings the team's record to 1-2 on the season and 1-0 in OCIAA Division 1 play.
The Crusaders next game will be on Thursday, December 14 at Pearl River High School against the Clarkstown South Vikings in the first round of the Pearl River Holiday Tournament.
