Monroe Police charge man with exposing himself at library

MONROE — Monroe Village Police have charged a 32-year-old man with exposing himself at the Monroe Free Library on Wednesday afternoon.
Eliezer Rabinowitz was charged with exposure of a person, a violation, and public lewdness, a misdemeanor. He was released on $100 bail, pending an appearance in Village Court on Sept. 7.
Police Chief David Conklin said the man’s license listed Brooklyn as his home, but Conklin said he believes Rabinowitz now lives in Kiryas Joel.
According to several accounts, Rabinowitz used a guest pass to use one of the library’s computers. He then began acting erratically, opening the fly of his trousers and exposing himself as he walked about the library.
He was confronted by one of the library’s staff members and left the building. He was apprehended shortly thereafter by Monroe Village Police.
Marilyn McIntosh, the library’s executive director, said the library was not particularly crowded at the time of the incident - 3:30 p.m.
But she acknowledged the efforts of the library employees.
“My staff did an outstanding job,” McIntosh said. “They protect the public’s interest at all times, and they shine when there’s trouble.”
