NEWBURGH — On Tuesday, Feb. 6, the Crusaders visited Newburgh Free Academy to take on the Goldbacks in a OCIAA Division 1 match.

The Crusaders entered the game with a 7-7 overall record and 4-1 in league play.

Jamie Waldron got the Crusaders off to strong start, scoring five points in the first quarter as the team got off to a 11-7 lead.

Toni Neely’s five points helped the Crusaders hold the Goldbacks off in the second quarter as the teams went into the half with the score 21-18.

After the half the Goldbacks tightened up their defense, holding the Crusaders to five points and tied the game at 26-26 as the third quarter ended.

In a very exciting fourth quarter, the Goldbacks took the lead with less than a minute left.

The Crusaders had one last chance, taking the ball out from under their own basket down by two with 16 seconds left but were unable to score.

The Crusaders' 38-36 loss to the Goldbacks was their first set back against Newburgh in four years.

The Crusaders' record now stands at 7-8 on the season and 4-2 in OCIAA Division 1 play.
