CENTRAL VALLEY — The Orange County Chinese Association is excited to begin the Chinese New Year with a $5,000 activity fund from the Office of Children and Family Services of New York State.
This grant has been funded through the office of Assemblyman James Skoufis. With this funding, the association will be able to ring in the 2018 Chinese New year with a celebration on Saturday, Feb. 10.
The Year of the DogIn Chinese astrology, each year relates to a Chinese zodiac animal according to the 12-year cycle. This year - 2018 - is a Dog Year.
Being born in a Dog year means being loyal and honest, amiable and kind, and cautious and prudent.
This is the first time the Orange County Chinese Association has received state funds for the Chinese New Year celebration. In the past years, the association has received funds from the Orange County Office of Tourism.
The Chinese New Year celebration will include performances that exhibit traditional Chinese cultural heritage, put on by Orange County Chinese School students and professional adult program entertainers.
In this way, qualified and experienced volunteers can come together with professional artists to host the family-oriented celebration.
Promoting awareness, tolerance and supportOpen to the public and hosted at the Monroe-Woodbury Middle School, Chinese New Year Celebration provides dinner brought by both a local catering business and fellow attendees.
This works to promote greater awareness of the benefits of culture tolerance, produce a culturally vibrant community and generate increased support amongst residents of Orange County.
