CENTRAL VALLEY — On Tuesday night, Jan. 9, the Monroe-Woodbury Girls Varsity Basketball team hosted the undefeated Warwick Valley Wildcats of Warwick in a non-league contest.

The Crusaders entered the game with a 4-3 record while the Wildcats, with an 8-0 record, are ranked in the top 20 in the state by the NYSPHSAA.

Defense dominated the first quarter as the Wildcats edged out to a 5-1 lead.

The two teams began to relax and score in the second quarter as the Wildcats stretched their lead to eight points for a 20-12 half time lead.

But the Crusaders came out after the half time break and outscored the Wildcats 16 to 6 in the third quarter to take a 28-26 lead into the fourth quarter. The outside shooting of Toni Neely and the inside work of Jamie Waldron lead the Crusaders comeback.

The fourth quarter showed why the Wildcats are undefeated: A strong defensive effort and some clutch free throws proved too much for the Crusaders to handle.

The 39-34 loss to the Wildcats brings the Crusader's record to 4-4 on the season.
