— Rabbi Dennis S. Ross has been recently appointed to serve as Monroe Temple's intentional interim rabbi.

“We are beginning a new chapter in the life of our active, thriving community," said Monroe Temple President Jodi Sander.

Ross said he looks forward to getting to know temple members and the larger community.

“Monroe Temple is entering a very exciting time, as we welcome the newcomers and the spiritually curious to temple each day,” he said.

Ross has served congregations in Manhattan, Chappaqua and Albany in addition to Washington, D.C.; Potomac, Maryland; and Pittsfield and Worcester in Massachusetts.

Ross, who has written for The New York Times and The Boston Globe, is the author of "God in Our Relationships: Spirituality between People from the Teachings of Martin Buber," "When a Lie Is Not a Sin: The Hebrew Bible’s Framework for Deciding" and "All Politics Is Religious: Speaking Faith to the Media, Policy Makers and Community."

Ross was ordained at Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion in New York. He holds a master's degree in social work from New York University and the primary certificate in rational-emotive therapy from the Albert Ellis Institute.

Additionally, Ross received an honorary doctor of divinity degree from Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion.

He is a member of the Central Conference of American Rabbis, the National Association of Jewish Chaplains and the National Association of Social Workers.

Ross replaces Rabbi Jesse Gallop, who left last July. The temple will be recruiting for a permanent rabbi.
