Herman Galberd gave Alex his first milk bottle from Arden Farms five years ago. Today Alex has collected nearly 300 milk bottles that tell the history of Orange County’s Dairy Farms. Once there were more than 2,900 dairies in Orange County; only 40 remain today.

HIGHLAND MILLS — Assemblyman James Skoufis stopped by the Woodbury Historical Society on Nov. 30 to present Alex Prizgintas (17) with a citation for his dedication to both preserving and promoting local history.
“Alex demonstrates a maturity and knowledge far beyond his years(17)," Skoufis said. "He’s extremely deserving of the recent recognition and is a shining example of what commitment to one’s community looks like.”
Most recently Alex was presented with the Hugh Hastings Award from the Association of Public Historians of New York State on Nov. 1 at their convention in Poughkeepsie, where he also presented his lecture on the History of Orange County Dairies and Their Milk Bottles.
Previously, Alex was awarded the Dannheim Award for Emerging Leaders from the National Association of Milk Bottle Collectors.
