HIGHLAND MILLS — Town of Woodbury Police Department’s K9 Zeke will receive a bullet and stab protective vest, thanks to a charitable donation from the non-profit organization, Vested Interest in K9s, Inc.

K9 Zeke’s vest is sponsored by Leanora Lipari of Massepequa and will be embroidered with the sentiment: “Born to Love - Trained to Serve - Loyal Always.”

Delivery is expected within eight to ten weeks.

Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. is a 501c (3) charity located in East Taunton, Mass., whose mission is to provide bullet and stab protective vests and other assistance to dogs of law enforcement and related agencies throughout the United States.

Since its inception in 2009, Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. has provided more than 2,700 protective vests in 50 states through private and corporate donations at a cost of more than $2.3 million.

The donation to provide one protective vest for a law enforcement K9 is $950.

The vest weighs between four and five pounds.

K9 Zeke is a Czech German Shepherd acquired by Woodbury Police earlier this year. Police Officer Jahn Farrell and Zeke have been training since March.
