CENTRAL VALLEY — The Woodbury Historical Society’s Gatehouse Committee has a special program planned for Sunday, Oct. 29, to be marked by the dedication of a new flagpole.

It is the result of a project by Eagle Scout candidate Tom Poutsma of Highland Mills who is a member of Boy Scout Troop 4.

His goal has been “to establish a ceremonial field for veterans and WHS members where they can relax, raise the flag and retire flags.”

The program starts at 2 p.m. with the flagpole dedication at 3 p.m.

There will also be a special talk given about John Simons, founder of Troop 4.

Special guests for the day will include State Assemblyman James Skoufis.

Following the day’s program, refreshments will be served in the newly refurbished Carriage House adjacent to the Gatehouse.

Both the Gatehouse and the Carriage House were once part of the historic Proctor Estate on Smith Clove Road in Central Valley (next to Falkirk Country Club).

The event is free and open to the public.
