CENTRAL VALLEY — The Crusaders hosted the Wildcats of Warwick in a non-league wrestling match on Wednesday, Dec, 20, at home in Central Valley.
The varsity match started at the 152 lbs. class where Julian Campofiori got the Crusaders off to a great start by recording a pin in 1:50.
He was followed on to the mat by Carter Stuart who took only 46 seconds to pin his Wildcat opponent.
The Crusaders were off to 12-0 lead.
The Wildcats took the next two matches and the score was 12-9 going into the 195 lbs. match where Sam Santander took an 11-5 decision to put the Crusaders up 15-9.
Crusader heavyweights David Strauss (220 lbs.), took 2:26 to record a pin and Preston Havison (285 lbs.) calmly walked on to the mat, picked his opponent up and pined him in 12 seconds to give the Crusaders a 27-9 lead.
It was then time for the lightweights. Richard Toledo (99 lbs.) scored a 13-0 decision and the Crusaders stretched their lead to 31-9.
The Wildcats took the next two matches and going into the 120 lbs. match the score was 31-21 for the Crusaders.
That was when the Crusaders ended the Wildcats comeback attempt and swept the last five matches.
First, Dylan Earl (120 lbs.) and Marco Vespa (126 lbs.) recorded pins followed by Jake Minnie's (132 lbs.) 6-4 decision and finally Max Wernicki (138 lbs.) and Joe McGinty (145 lbs.) closed the door on the Wildcats by recording pins.
The Crusaders' 58-21 victory over the Wildcats brings their record to 2-0 on the season.
