MONROE — Monroe percussionist Andres Vahos presents 12 of his young music students in performance from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 24, at Monroe Free Library.

A bake sale of goodies donated by MFL staff and board members to benefit the library follows the free concert.

The 9- to 18-year-old musicians will play a variety of percussion pieces, transcriptions and jazz standards, making a little noise in tunes ranging from Bach to the Jackson 5 on marimba, xylophone, drumset, tambourines and hand drums among other things.

Vocalist Chloe Borthwick from Warwick Valley High School joins the percussion fun by Monroe-Woodbury students William Nicoll, James Nicoll, Yvon Massillon, Joshua LeViseur, Ryan Scotto, Kathryn Nicoll, Christian Johnson, Eric Schmit, Ryan Ezratty and Ryan Kiesel, plus Brandon Bromsey, a recent Crane School of Music grad from Spackenkill High School.

All are invited to come and hear tunes like Ain’t We Got Funk?, Pizzicato Polka, ABC, Pure Imagination and more in the hour-long program under the direction of Vahos.

A 2011 Monroe-Woodbury graduate, Vahos has performed around the globe as both a drummer and percussionist. From ballet orchestras to hip-hop groups, he has performed in Prague and Beijing, at Carnegie Hall, on PBS National Broadcasts and in performances receiving critical acclaim from The New York Times.

Vahos teaches privately in the New York/New Jersey area, with many of his students receiving statewide and nationwide recognition. He’s also a graduate of Crane School of Music and a master’s degree candidate at Rutgers University.
