Graduations Samantha Ampel, a native of Monroe, graduated magna cum laude from Ithaca College’s School of Communications with a degree in Communication, Management and Design.

Julia Arras of Tuxedo Park has received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Western Governors University in Utah.

Dean’s List Darrien Pulos-Rooney of Monroe was named to the 2017 Dean’s List at Union College in Schenectady. Pulos-Rooney is a member of the Class of 2017, majoring in psychology.

To qualify, Union students must have a grade point average of 3.5 for the entire academic year and meet certain other requirements.

The following students have been cited for academic achievement for the Spring 2017 semester by achieving the Dean’s List at the State University of New York College of Technology at Delhi.

The Dean’s List distinction is awarded each semester to students who have carried at least 12 graded credits with a minimum semester GPA of 3.5.

Sara Wernick of Highland Mills was named to the Dean’s List for the spring 2017 semester at the University of Minnesota Twin Cities in Minneapolis. To qualify, a student must complete 12 or more letter-graded credits while attaining a 3.66 grade point average.

Honors, awards, programs Paige Drews of Monroe was inducted into the Sigma Alpha Iota music fraternity at Susquehanna University in Selinsgrove, Pa.

Sigma Alpha Iota is a music fraternity for women that strives to promote the development and growth of music across campus and even across the world. The sisters of SAI serve as volunteer ushers for various events sponsored by Susquehanna University’s Department of Music. The organization’s projects and events are all music-oriented and have included fund raisers for VH1’s Save the Music organization. Chapter membership is open to students of all majors.

Drews is a creative writing major in the Class of 2020. A 2016 graduate of Monroe-Woodbury High School, she is the daughter of Richard and Lauren Drews.

Brittany Sullivan of Monroe, a student at Belmont University in Nashville, Tenn., traveled to Brazil and Argentina this summer as part of the university’s largest group of student travelers in university history. With more than 650 students participating in 34 programs, including Maymester trips, students will spend time in Greece, Brazil, England, France, Switzerland and Haiti, among many other locations.
