ORLANDO, FLA. — The Monroe-Woodbury Pop Warner Junior Varsity and Junior Peewee Cheer squads recently competed in the Pop Warner Nationals in Orlando, Florida.
Both the Junior Varsity and Junior Peewees each placed fourth in their divisions.
Both teams started their journey by first becoming Empire State Champions in Albany and then placing second at Eastern Region Champions in Trenton, N.J., earning them a spot at the Nationals.
The Junior Varsity Team was one of 12 teams in the competition; the Junior Peewee Team was one of seven teams.
The national competition featured more than 300 teams who competed over five days.
The girls presented their two-minute, 30-second choreographed cheer, dance and stunt performance to judges at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex at Disney World.
The squads compete in four different age ranges: Junior PeeWee, PeeWee, Junior Varsity and Varsity; three different team sizes: small, medium and large; and four competition skill levels: pw1, pw2, pw3 and pw4
“Words alone cannot describe the pride I have for all the hard work these 54 girls put in along with the hard work and time the trainers and coaches put in," said Cheer Director Ted Nelson said in the press release detailing the achievement.
