How can I get free SUNY or CUNY tuition (State University of NY, City University of NY)?

Need yet another reason for your child to do well in school and reach the top 10% of his or her class? Governor Cuomo has put a program in place, effective for those students entering college Fall 2014, to receive free tuition at a SUNY school that they have been accepted to if they meet the below criteria:

+ Are graduating in the top 10% of their high school class
+ They are majoring in one of the STEM majors, Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics
+ Have been accepted to the SUNY or CUNY school that they have applied to and will attend

This is an incredible program and opportunity for our children, and of course for financial planning. Keep in mind that this is just free tuition and does not include room and board or other fees. SUNY tuition averages $6,000 per year with a total tuition/room and board/fees of about $20,000. This of course does not include any financial aid that you may be eligible for, which can reduce the total college bill as well.
