TUXEDO — The Rockland Boulders sponsored a challenge for students to read at least 400 minutes over a three-week period, from April 24 to May 12.

Unfortunately, staff at Tuxedo didn't find out about this challenge until the end of April.

So the Tuxedo staff presented the challenge to its students and outlined what the students needed to do in such a short time frame to compete for prizes:

They had to squeeze their reading minutes into a two-week period (May 1 to May 12) in order to earn prizes.

Both staff and students were motivated as students encouraged each other to achieve the goal.

They rose to the challenge: Seven of George Grant Mason students read more than 1,000 minutes and will have the opportunity to throw out a first pitch at the June 22 Rockland Boulders game.

"A big thank you," School Superintendent Nancy Teed said in the press release detailing the student's success, "from Tuxedo to the Rockland Boulders for sponsoring this program that motivates students to read more and hopefully develops into a life-long passion for reading."
