Samuel Barash, former longtime Monroe resident, passed away on Sunday, May 7, 2017, in Aventura, Florida. He was 96.

Son of Rudolph Barash and Lisa Solomon Barash, he was born in Brooklyn on April 16, 1921.

Sam was a retired Chief of Construction and Appraisals for Veterans’ Administration Affairs of New Jersey in Newark.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving during World War II. He also was the author of 10 books.

He was a long-time member of the Monroe Temple of Liberal Judaism and Monroe Tennis Club.

He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Selma Silber Barash of Aventura, Florida; his daughter Julia Barash and her husband Arnold Resnick of Aventura, Florida; and three grandchildren: Vanessa, Dustin and Cassie.

Funeral services were held May 10, 2017 at Smith, Seaman & Quackenbush, Inc. Funeral Home in Monroe, with Rabbi Jesse Gallop officiating.

Interment followed in Cedar Hill Cemetery in Newburgh.
