  • "Just as man cannot live without dreams, he cannot live without hope. If dreams reflect the past, hope summons the future.... The opposite of the past is not the future but the absence of future; the opposite of the future is not the past but the absence of past. The loss of one is equivalent to the sacrifice of the other." Elie Wiesel, Nobel lecture, Dec. 11, 1986

MONROE —Congregation Eitz Chaim will hold its 2017 Yom HaShoah Commemoration Program on Sunday, April 23, beginning at 1 p.m.

The program will be dedicated to the memory of Elie Wiesel, the Romanian-born American Jewish writer, professor, political activist, Nobel Laureate and Holocaust survivor.

It will feature Cecile Kaufer, who will share her poetry and answer questions about her heroic survival in France.

The congregation also will honor the dedicated and inspirational service of Yom HaShoah committee member Dr. Paula Neyman, Ruth Sussman and Evelyn Marshak.

The religious school children will participate in music, song and readings.

All are welcome.

Congregation Eitz Chaim is located at 1465 Orange Turnpike in Monroe.
