WARWICK Sustainable Warwick is sponsoring a tribute to the iconic American folk musician, Phil Ochs, on Friday, April 7, at the Unitarian Universalist Church in Rock Tavern.

Ochs was one of the most versatile and iconic figures on the American folk music scene in the 1960s and 70s. The event features performances by John Flynn, Brother Sun and Emma's Revolution. It will be hosted by Ochs' sister, Sonny Ochs of WIOX-Radio, formerly with WRPI and WFDU.

Ochs was the quintessential social and political folk music activist. Wikipedia characterizes his unique style as having "sharp wit, sardonic humor, earnest humanism, and political activism…” with a most distinctive endearing voice. As a prolific composer/lyricist, he recorded eight albums for such major labels as Elektra and A&M. He cited Woody Guthrie, Pete Seeger, and Merle Haggard as major influences.

Seating is limited. Admission is $25. For reservations, send checks made out to Community 2000 with Sustainable Warwick in the memo to Russ Layne, 204 Hambletonian Road, Chester, NY 10918.

The Unitarian Universalist Church is located at 9 Vance Ave., Rock Tavern. The show begins at 7 p.m.

For more information, call 845-325-1615.

Sustainable Warwick is a local non-profit organization dedicated to increasing public understanding of sustainability by providing information and encouraging individuals, community organizations, businesses, schools, and government to cooperate in protecting environmental quality and reducing carbon emissions.
