GraduationsBrittany Ann Burton of Monroe graduated with a degree in accounting from James Madison University in Harrisburg, Va., during commencement exercises in December.
Presidential Honor SocietyJessica Simon of Chester has been named to the Dean’s List of Distinguished Students with a 4.0 GPA for the fall 2016 semester at the University of Albany.
Simon is majoring in psychology with a minor in philosophy. She is a member of the Presidential Honor Society and Psychology Honors Program.
She is on the executive board of the Green Party Society, is a founding member/Acting President of To Write Love on Your Arms and a member of ABLE (Albany Business Leaders Emerging).
Dean’s List The following students have been named to the Dean’s List for the fall 2016 semester at Clarkson University in Potsdam:
Nicole Alyssa D’Ambrosio of Highland Mills, a junior majoring in engineering and management.
Zachary H. Zielinski of Monroe, a senior majoring in chemical engineering.
Dean’s List students must achieve a minimum 3.25 grade-point average and also carry at least 14 credit hours.
Thomas Friedman, a junior at DeSales University in Center Valley, Pa., made the Dean’s List for the fall 2016 semester. He is majoring in criminal justice with a minor in psychology. He is looking to do an internship this summer with the DEA.
Friedman also is a start mid fielder for DeSales University’s Men’s Lacrosse Team.
He is the son of Lee and Eric Friedman in Monroe.
Amin Tmimi of Highland Mills was named to the Dean’s List for the fall 2016 semester at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
Francesco DiLello has been named to the Dean’s List for the fall 2016 semester at the Ithaca College School of Music with a 3.925 GPA.
Erin Geraghty from Highland Mills has been named to the Dean’s List for the fall 2016 semester at the University of Massachusetts at Dartmouth.
To qualify, a student must earn a semester grade point average of 3.2 or higher of a possible 4.0.
Michael Kelly of Monroe has been named to the Dean’s List for the fall 2016 semester at SUNY Cortland. Kelly, a 2013 graduate of John S. Burke Catholic High School, is a physical education major. He is the son of Margaret and Mark Oettinger.
Ashley Crover of Harriman has been named to the Dean’s List for the fall 2016 semester at SUNY New Paltz.
Dean’s List designation is reserved for students who excel academically and earn at least a 3.3 grade point average in a semester with a full-time course load.
Crover is majoring in psychology, minoring in sociology. Her area of focus in mental health counseling. She is in her senior year at New Paltz and graduated from Monroe-Woodbury High School.
Hannah Shachter of Central Valley has been named to the Dean’s List for the fall 2016 semester at SUNY Cortland.
A 2013 graduate of Monroe-Woodbury High School, Schachter is studying community health. She is the daughter of Margie and Gary Shachter.
Joshua Wendt of Highland Mills (M-W Class of 2014) has been named to the Dean’s List for the fall 2016 semester at SUNY New Paltz. He is majoring in costume design.
Kate Donnellan of Highland Mills has been named to the Dean’s List for the fall 2016 semester at Saint Anselm College in Manchester, New Hampshire.
To be eligible, a student must have achieved a GPA of 3.0 or better in a semester with at least 16 credits of study which award a letter grade.
Donnellan, a of the college’s Class of 2019, is studying accounting.
Jessica Cortez of Monroe has been named to the Dean’s List at the University of Scranton.
To qualify, a student must have a grade point average of 3.5 or better with a minimum number of credit hours during the semester.
Cortez is a sophomore community health education major in the University’s Panuska College of Professional Studies.
Honors, programs, awardsBrooke Hughes of Highland Mills is one of 19 student-athletes on this year’s 2017 Kutztown University softball team.
KU returns 7-of-9 starters and was picked to finish second in the Eastern Division in the 2017 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Preseason Poll, as voted on by the league’s coaches.
The Golden Bears went 33-17 last year, finished second in the PSAC East and qualified for the NCAA Tournament. KU finished second to West Chester last year - the same team KU was picked second to in this year’s preseason poll.
Kutztown opened its 2017 season on Friday, Feb. 3, in North Carolina.
