Monroe's 26th annual Turkey Trot 5K attracts 213 runners and walkers

MONROE — In spite of a slight drizzle earlier that morning, the 26th annual Turkey Trot 5K race/walk took off at 9 a.m. Saturday without a glitch.

Two hundred and thirteen runners and walkers - with the help of the Village of Monroe Police and the Monroe Volunteer Ambulance - took a route through downtown Monroe, along the ponds around the scenic back section of Smith’s Clove to end up back at the park.

William Branson, 21, from Otisville, came in first place with a time of 17.54.4.

Meanwhile, Emily Jibb, 13, of Monroe took the women’s division with a time of 22.09.3.

“It was nice to see so many young people participate” said John Battaglia, chairman of the Monroe Joint Park Commission, “along with the many repeat runners and walker.”

This year, the youngest runners were Grace Gillette and Lily Post, seven years old from Monroe, while the most mature runner was James Dugan, 83, from Cornwall.

As they completed their race, participants and their supporters went back to the park’s activity room for water, fruit and bagels supplied by Bagel World in Monroe. The awards ceremony followed.
