TUXEDO PARK — The Tuxedo Park Library will present "Hiking in Bear Country: Safety Tips & Great Local Hikes" with Don Weise, development director of NY-NJ Trail Conference, will discuss "Hiking in Bear Country" on Wednesday, Oct. 5, at 7 p.m., at the Tuxedo Park Library.

Author of Circuit "Hikes in Harriman" and "West Milford’s Baker’s Dozen," Weise will share his knowledge and passion for enjoying hikes in Tuxedo and the surrounding areas, while practicing outdoor safety.

With more than 20 years’ experience as a hike leader, runner and environmental advocate, Weise will be an intriguing speaker to those of many interest levels of hiking and nature.

He will share tips on identifying extraordinary hikes and tailoring them to your group’s ability level.

His organization, the NY-NJ Trail Conference, builds, maintains and protects a network of more than 2,150 miles of trails around Tuxedo and the greater New York area.

A special guest will be TV news anchorman and Tuxedo resident Mike Schneider, who is starring in “On the Trail with Mike Schneider” on public television this fall.

Weise also will be bringing and signing copies of his new book, "Circuit Hikes in Harriman," which features hikes accessible from Tuxedo Station.
