HARRIMAN — A 59-year-old woman plunged to a tragic death after her car went off the road on Route 17 in Tuxedo on Wednesday morning.Daxa Parikh, of Harriman, was driving a 2008 Lexus sedan northbound on Route 17 at about 8:43 a.m. when she failed to negotiate what is known as "the S turns," Tuxedo Police Chief Patrick Welsh said.Instead of turning left, her car went to the right and off the shoulder for an "unknown reason," Welsh said. The car went through trees and brush before landing fifty feet down in a gorge, about 100 yards away from the road, Welsh said.Parikh, who was entrapped in the vehicle, was declared dead at the scene by Rockland paramedics.Welsh said Parikh was driving home from work. The reason for the crash is unknown at this time. Possible reasons could be that she fell asleep or had a sudden medical condition, Welsh said.A medical examiner's report could shed more light on the causes, he said.
