Since its inception 25 years ago, the Michael J. Finnegan Fund has awarded $503,500 to 48 Monroe-Woodbury scholar athletes

— The Michael J. Finnegan Scholarship Fund celebrated its 25th anniversary by awarding scholarships to Luca Pasquariello, Jesse Kaffenberger and Shane Moran at the Monroe-Woodbury Parents' Football Club annual awards dinner, held at Falkirk Estate & Golf Club.

In the last 25 years, the fund has awarded $503,500 to 48 Monroe-Woodbury scholar athletes.

The 2014 recipients continue the tradition of success on the football field as well as success in the classroom:

Luca PasquarielloLuca Pasquariello, a senior from the 2015 M-W graduating class, received a $5,000 scholarship.

He was a starting defensive lineman for the 2014 M-W Crusaders.

He also ranks in the top 15 percent of his class, he has a four-year cumulative grade point average of 93.5 percent and a cumulative score of 1350 on the math and critical writing parts of the SAT exam.

Luca is the president of the Italian National Honor Society. He volunteers his time to the American Cancer Society, Making Strides Breast Cancer Organization. He also tutors at the M-W Middle School .

Jesse KaffenbergerJesse Kaffenberger, a senior from the 2015 M-W graduating class received a $5,000 scholarship.

Jesse ranks in the top 15 percent of his class, he has a four-year cumulative grade point average of 94.1 percent, and a cumulative math and critical writing SAT score of 1230.

He was a three-year varsity player; a two-year, two-way player; team captain; and he was named to the NYS Section IX All Star team on both offense and defense;

He also is a member of the L.E.A.D. Program and the History Club; he tutors lower grade students; he is a Safe School Ambassador, a Helen Hayes Foundation Fund Raiser, a Breast Cancer Awareness Walk and a member of President Eisenhower's People to People Program.

Shane MoranShane Moran, a senior from the 2015 M-W graduating class, received a $15,000 scholarship.

Shane ranks in the top 10 percent of his class, he has a four year cumulative grade point average of 96.0 percent and he has accumulative ACT score of 32.

His hard work as an offensive lineman on the M-W Crusaders football team was only surpassed by his academic record in the classroom. He was a member of the National Honor Society in both his junior and senior years.

He is president of the Senior Class; he is a member of the History Club; he volunteers for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention; and volunteers at his local parish church.

ThanksIn announcing the 2014 scholarship award winners, the Finnegan Scholarship Fund also thanked The Photo News for its "long-standing support and recognition," which, the group added, contributed to "the statewide prestige of this scholarship award."
