Monroe - Monroe Volunteer Ambulance Corps recently received a donation of specially designed pet oxygen masks from Invisible Fence of Orange County.
The donation is part of the “Project Breath” program that allows fire departments and ambulance corps to assist a stricken animal in the event of fire or other emergency.
According to the press release announcing the donation, an estimated 40,000 pets in the United States die each year in fires; most from smoke inhalation. In addition, there is increased use of service and law enforcement K-9s.
The Monroe Volunteer Ambulance currently provides standby medical coverage at fire scenes in the town of Monroe.
And while the ambulance corps does not respond nor provide medical care to animals, these masks will equip the corps to assist when possible.
