CENTRAL VALLEY — On a hot Tuesday afternoon, Sept. 4, the Monroe-Woodbury Girls Varsity Soccer Team hosted the Wizards of Washingtonville in a non-league contest.
In a hard-fought, defensive contest the Crusaders were able to get on the board first when Kaelyn Salato took a loose ball from just inside the box, got clear and pounded a shot off the Wizard goalie’s hands into the net.
Crusader goalie Angela Fini came up big with a couple key saves in the first half to keep the Wizards from tiring the score.
In the second half the Crusaders were able to apply more pressure to Wizards defense. But it was not until Colleen Kinsella took a quick pass from Salato and was able to angle it past the Wizard goalie that the Crusaders were able to get that important two-goal lead.
The Crusaders defense, led by Co-Captain Nicole Conway, was able to keep the Wizards from scoring to record the team's second shutout of the season.
The Crusaders 2-0 victory over the Wizards brings their season record to 2-0.
Their next game will be at Cornwall against the Dragons.
