Robert J. Markowitz
Robert Jay Markowitz, 73, died on Thursday, Dec. 27, 2018, in Burlington, Massachusetts. He died peacefully at his residence after living with dementia for a number of years.
He was born Feb. 9, 1945, in Brooklyn, to the Dr. Martin and Mildred Markowitz.
He graduated from Franklin and Marshall College and the University of Chicago Medical School.
He served as an officer in the United States Navy and as a pediatrician at the naval base.
Affectionately known as Dr. Bob, he was a well-loved and dedicated pediatrician in Monroe, where he lived the majority of his adult life.
Dr. Bob enjoyed skiing, traveling, Italian food and a nice glass of wine.
He is survived by his children, Rachel Markowitz and Adam Markowitz; their spouses, Zelig Kurland and Jessica Markowitz; and his grandchildren: Samuel Markowitz, Ruth Kurland, Jacob Markowitz and Zev Kurland.
He was predeceased by his spouse, Hope Elaine Markowitz, and his brother, Roy Markowitz.
The family received friends on Sunday, Dec. 30, at Smith, Seaman, and Quackenbush Funeral Home in Monroe.
A Funeral Service officiated by Rabbi Rebecca Schinder followed.
After services, guests were invited to join the family in Shiva at the home of Paul and Janet Wolvek in Monroe.
The family would like to thank the caregivers at Atria Longmeadow Place, Burlington, Mass., for their loving care of Dr. Bob in his last days.
