Spring forward into programming at Monroe Free Library
MONROE — With the promise of warmer, spring weather, Monroe Free Library is giving adults and young people more reasons to leave the house:
• Thursday, March 10, at 6:30 p.m., the Cook Book Club will get together to explore Barefoot Contessa's How Easy Is That? Love to cook, love to talk about food or just love to eat? Join us for a night of doing it all.
• Friday, March 18, at 2 p.m., the library will lead a book discussion of Colm Toibin's best seller "Brooklyn." Copies of the book, about a young Irish immigrant in Brooklyn in the early 1950s, are available at the library now. (The Brooklyn discussion will be held again at 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 22.)
• Thursdays, March 24 and 31, the library's popular Story Time program will feature children's entertainer Sukey Molloy, perfect for babies and kids under 3.
• Saturday, March 26, at 1 p.m., families are invited to watch Saturday morning cartoons on the library's brand new projection screen. Kids will be served a snack.
• Tuesday, March 29, at 5 p.m., the Cornell University Cooperative Extension will present "Eating Smart - Being Active," an interactive nutrition presentation for families with children and for pregnant women. The hands-on class features tips for eating healthfully on a budget, a samples of the recipes, and a family activity.
• Thursday, March 31, at 6:30 p.m., teens and the parents who love them are invited to attend a free College Admissions Information Night presented by Elizabeth Levine of Signature College Counseling. Topics include the college search, essays, and the basics of financial aid.
• A second presentation, at 6:30 p.m., on April 5, will dive deeply into financial aid, exploring college "sticker prices," expected family contributions, and where the money comes from.
• Thursday afternoons in March, the library's Homework Helpers will be available to work with kids in grades 2 through 5 who want to drop in for a helping hand with their schoolwork.
